DIY Sew: St. Patrick's Day Skirt

For the upcoming holiday, I just knew I wanted to create something festive; and after seeing the below shimmer green table cloth at home goods I just knew I needed to have it, and give it new life.

Materials:

1 yd of fabric

zipper

scissors

thread

sewing machine

tape measure

fabric chalk

old skirt (for tracing)

Crochet Infinity Scarf

A few months ago for my family's secret santa I decided to whip up a quick infinity scarf.  It was perfect because although it limited the gift to just women it worked for all ages.  For this project you only need one skein of yarn, and it works together in a little more than two hours, so it's a perfect easy present! I was so pleased with the result I made two more during various car rides during the holidays.

Materials:

1 skein of homespun in meadow

size k crochet hook

darning needle

scissors

Step 1: Create a slipknot

Step 2: Chain 70

Step 3: Using a slip stitch connect the first chain to the last chain

Step 4: Triple crochet around in every stitch and then connect (repeat for 11 rows or until you finish off the yarn)

Step 5: Using a darning needle weave in ends

Yesterday I checked out the sales on Ruelala and this Kenneth Jay Lane Chain Link Necklace originally priced at $200 was on sale for $69.90; seems like a steal right?  Immediately when I saw the necklace I was reminded of the cobra bracelet my sister and I made, I swear the chain was exactly the same, only priced at a fraction of the cost.  The store I purchased the chain at doesn't have a website, but I found similar chain at M & J Trimming for $19.98 a yd.  Essentially to remake almost the exact same necklace it would cost you right around $10! Shocking!

Pinterest Challenge Week 3: Sleep Mask

At the end of this month I'll be taking a two week trip to Japan and China, I could not be more excited!  The one thing I'm not looking forward to is the seventeen hour flight to Japan.  In an attempt to make my trip a bit more comfortable I've decided to DIY an eye mask.

Materials:

2 pieces of scrap fabric

Pattern Piece (using this tutorial, Dana from Wonder Forest provides a pattern)

elastic

sewing machine and thread


Step 1: using the pattern cut out two pieces of different fabric

Step 2: place the fabric on your eyes and measure elastic around your head to see what length is most comfortable, cut to that size

Step 3: place the elastic on top of the patterned fabric, then place black fabric on top of the patterned fabric and pin ,sew around, leaving 2 inches open (make sure almost the entire elastic is inside only leave about a 1/2'' on each side out)

Step 4: Flip right side out (through the 2'' you left open)
Step 5: Fold in the extra 2'' and sew

That's it... ready for some snoozing!

 

Pinterest Challenge Week 2: Faux Fur Infinity Scarf

For my second week of the Pinterest Challenge I decided to recreate the below faux fur infinity scarf using Stephanie's Tutorial from the blog Henry Happened 

I essentially followed Stephanie's tutorial to a T, except for one part, where I used a sewing machine, instead of hand sewing.

Here's the steps I took:

 Cut one piece of faux fur 32'' by 7''

Fold fabric in half, pin and sew (I used a sewing machine here, but you can hand stitch if you like)

Turn scarf right side out (fur facing out), then fold in half, and hand sew closed

Flip right side out

Done!
