When I first got engaged, I had ambitious thoughts of DIYing everything for the wedding, including the wedding dress. I thought it would be the ultimate project to make and then display something I made on what would be the largest scale event of my life. There were a few issues with this ambition of mine, for starters I had never made a dress before, and after doing some preliminary research, I decided against attempting to make a dress and instead settled on something a little less daunting, a skirt for my bridal shower.</div>

I'm back from my 6 month hiatus! A lot has changed in the past few months, I got married, changed my last name, and now my husband and I are in the process of buying a house! I promise you I did not stop crafting (just posting). The good thing about my brief break is now I have tons and tons of material to post on the blog. From wedding signs, to table numbers, invitations, bridal favors, and sewing tutorials, I can't wait to share what I've been up to! Here's a brief peek into some of the wedding DIYs, photos taken by my incredibly talented photographer <a href="http://www.jenellekappe.com/" target="_blank">Jenelle Kappe</a>!</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
As I mentioned in an earlier post I'm engaged! And of course it wouldn't be a craftynovice wedding without a few DIYs. Over the next few months I'll be sharing some hand mades for my big day. The first I'll share are my Save the Dates. These were insanely easy and extremely affordable!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The very first thing I had to do was get a great picture. My fiancé and I have some great pictures traveling but nothing that really had that professional feel I was looking for. Not wanting to go overboard on budget we didn't think hiring a wedding photographer for engagement photos was necessary. As an alternative I asked my good friend who has a nice camera to take a few shots of Ed and I. She pleasantly surprised us with some amazing pics, I don't mean to brag, but don't these look professional?</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After uploading the pictures and settling on one, I downloaded these fonts from dafont.com: Jenna Sue, Admiration Pains, Everything Holiday, and Moon Flower</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Using photoshop I typed Save the Date in white using the Admiration Pains font.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUgC_1vCvovpu7aY6Fm73UwhgAhBkJ3T6dMCgfoMalb21uvlLqbM3BtHIaG940FojphJ9FoNtDyCQUe2Nn4rkpayuNSI56w-pQheZO7302MeL6d-O5s0KX4kYHjFq2BehokxYg-6cdGxk/s1600/STDfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUgC_1vCvovpu7aY6Fm73UwhgAhBkJ3T6dMCgfoMalb21uvlLqbM3BtHIaG940FojphJ9FoNtDyCQUe2Nn4rkpayuNSI56w-pQheZO7302MeL6d-O5s0KX4kYHjFq2BehokxYg-6cdGxk/s1600/STDfront.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I opened a new file to create the text that would go on the back of the postcard and saved the file as an image.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The last step was uploading the photos onto vistaprint (as a postcard) and ordering. If you have any questions be sure to call the customer service line as they are extremely helpful.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And that's it, wait a week or two for your shipment to come in, address and stamp, send, and then you're done!!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm currently planning my wedding for this July. In the process my fiancé and I have decided to design our own wedding invitations. As we've been working in photoshop elements 10, I realized that along with making our own wedding invites, I should design all types of cards, birthday, anniversary, baby shower, etc.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I whipped up this card in a few short minutes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Materials:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Card Stock </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Little B tape</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
printer</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 1: Design your text in photoshop or paint. If you want more pretty and interesting fonts than are currently on your computer, you can go to dafont.com and download your choice of font. For this card I used Everything Holiday. To download fonts create a folder on your computer and save the font to that folder, unzip the folder, and move the unzipped folder to the fonts folder which can be found within the control panel --> appearance and personalization--> fonts</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 2: Print, make sure to change the size of your paper to 5"by 7"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 3: Add a small pop of sophistication by decorating with little b tape</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Get ready for a quick, cute, cheap 30 minute DIY project...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 1: find an old dip/salsa container or mason jar</div>

<div align="center">
Step 2: Wash out the jar, and soak in soap in water. After about a half hour you should be able to easily pull off the label</div>

<br />
In preparation for my mini vacation this weekend for my fiancé's birthday I decided to make myself a beach bag. I had some burlap laying around and figured it would be an easy enough project.<br />
<br />
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Step 1: Cut 1 piece of burlap 19" by 34" and a second piece 3" by 50"</div>
<div align="center">

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Step 2: Fold the edges of the 19" by 34" piece in twice on both ends, pin and sew</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Fold the 50" by 3" piece in half, pin and sew, your piece should measure 1 1/2" by 50"</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A few weeks ago, I made <a href="http://thecraftynovice.blogspot.com/2014/10/cloth-bag-with-leather-straps.html" target="_blank">this</a> tote bag. I was so happy how it turned out I wanted to make another, this time in canvas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I purchased 1 yard of 9.3 oz black canvas fabric from the website <a href="http://www.onlinefabricstore.net/9-3-oz-black-cotton-canvas-fabric-.htm" target="_blank">onlinefabricstore</a>.com</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the lining, I used some flower fabric from my stash</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Follow <a href="http://thecraftynovice.blogspot.com/2014/10/cloth-bag-with-leather-straps.html" target="_blank">this</a> tutorial, the only exception is to install the pocket to the lining fabric and not the canvas.</div>

<br />
To anyone still reading, I'm terribly sorry for the long hiatus. Lots of great changes in my life recently that have left me with little free time. I promise I will make a more concerted effort to keep up with regular posts in the future.<br />
<br />
Now to the fun stuff...<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1/2 circle skirt with waistband tutorial!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Materials Needed: </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 1/2 yards of fabric</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
zipper</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
matching thread</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
sewing machine</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Step 1: trace and cut pattern; use this <a href="http://www.thecraftynovice.blogspot.com/2013/09/how-to-draft-12-circle-skirt-pattern.html" target="_blank">pattern</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 2: Fold fabric in half with right sides of the fabric touching. Trace the pattern onto fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 3: Cut fabric </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 4: Sew up only the bottom half of one side of the skirt using a straight short stitch, then sew up the top half of the side of the skirt with a long straight stitch (you'll be pulling out this seam once the zipper is installed)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuVzWq2sBFhtJmvhh0XfWLc8zUpIyWr04tSQhudJSruZzuAB8xHNyMn-7FmOEIlXYA3DzQbLHM3J35WjURVRPVbVrNRvu8Gf0mCUXLWA4Z-R2sLBl1g5XIAOBQ09qflAB0pHmderPBXpU/s1600/skirtpattern.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuVzWq2sBFhtJmvhh0XfWLc8zUpIyWr04tSQhudJSruZzuAB8xHNyMn-7FmOEIlXYA3DzQbLHM3J35WjURVRPVbVrNRvu8Gf0mCUXLWA4Z-R2sLBl1g5XIAOBQ09qflAB0pHmderPBXpU/s1600/skirtpattern.png" height="241" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Step 5: The Waistband, take this fabric piece....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkZjGejt4qKnsFabGvNSKhw6uJdPIgB8jnrq_zR0G6ai5f6bx4Rbj2b-C_no1u6OxGOcdaETXl45if7ykCU1msRZMwh8bNZhnOpe5akKtLvc6nnV3v0iO85HgVE5On5QSB8npLtOo5HEs/s1600/straightstitch.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkZjGejt4qKnsFabGvNSKhw6uJdPIgB8jnrq_zR0G6ai5f6bx4Rbj2b-C_no1u6OxGOcdaETXl45if7ykCU1msRZMwh8bNZhnOpe5akKtLvc6nnV3v0iO85HgVE5On5QSB8npLtOo5HEs/s1600/straightstitch.png" height="225" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 6: With skirt piece fabric right side out- place the waist band piece over the skirt piece waist band and sew at the top all the way around the skirt using a short straight stitch (note, do not sew over the side seam and leave a little extra waist band fabric for folding over)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Step 7: Turn skirt inside out. Iron open the seam, place zipper face down into the seam. Sew zipper into the skirt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXsDfBGgyxXvxzefgW8V2pNSW1rHKzQE7nXoJTNq-YaYShwqdFLECTnNXmL6DxJA3y6T5d1bsWfE6vIXrsCxjK2Uy0Hr2e6TSrSrbSEZ6KIW2lilkWrUY8WAUUuRK56SiSSSY7fJde6Mo/s1600/skirt+228.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXsDfBGgyxXvxzefgW8V2pNSW1rHKzQE7nXoJTNq-YaYShwqdFLECTnNXmL6DxJA3y6T5d1bsWfE6vIXrsCxjK2Uy0Hr2e6TSrSrbSEZ6KIW2lilkWrUY8WAUUuRK56SiSSSY7fJde6Mo/s1600/skirt+228.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 8: Use a seam ripper to rip the seam open under the zipper<br />
Step 9: Hem<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love the femininity of tulle skirts, so when I saw a few tutorials floating around pinterest recently I knew I wanted to see if I could make one for myself.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I scored 3 yards of white tulle on sale and stashed it away until I had the motivation and time to sew.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You'll also need 1 yard of white cotton fabric and a white zipper.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For this skirt I used my circle <a href="http://www.thecraftynovice.blogspot.com/2013/09/how-to-draft-12-circle-skirt-pattern.html" target="_blank">skirt pattern</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You only need the bottom piece, not the waist band.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Use the pattern to trace 6 tulle skirt pieces and 1 cotton skirt piece (make sure to trace each skirt pattern on the fold).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpfKOiTViossMuNaVLT8moTxguRJsYn_93-zLpU5aNVYLmp9IW6URKAAHhgqe_wn_dL_qXw2PXVwW23vq7zs8RzVcmbrPN_aNKBhTLU5twJMtIObknqEb6LGX3E0QDpyUREcs8jic6Iio/s1600/cotton.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpfKOiTViossMuNaVLT8moTxguRJsYn_93-zLpU5aNVYLmp9IW6URKAAHhgqe_wn_dL_qXw2PXVwW23vq7zs8RzVcmbrPN_aNKBhTLU5twJMtIObknqEb6LGX3E0QDpyUREcs8jic6Iio/s1600/cotton.jpg" height="352" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pin up the side of the skirt and sew. Do this for both the cotton piece and all 6 tulle pieces.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Turn all skirt pieces right side out. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The cotton piece will be the first layer, then layer on each tulle piece.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have been toying with the idea of making a leather skirt for quite some time now. I think it's the perfect piece to have in your closet for almost every season. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Armed with my idea in mind, I set out to mood for materials. Once there, I decided on using faux leather as it was a much cheaper alternative to real leather. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I finally found the time to sew up the skirt, I was unbelievably shocked when it came together in under 20 minutes! I have to say, this is the easiest sewing project I have done to date. I must warn you, my method is a bit unconventional as I did not install a zipper or an elastic waistband. The faux leather I purchased had a lot of stretch to it, and as a result I was able to put the skirt on over my head. This method will <strong>not</strong> work for everyone, if your bust and waist size vary dramatically I would suggest installing a zipper.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My method for creating a faux leather skirt in 4 easy steps:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 1: Create a 1/2 circle skirt pattern on craft paper. Use my tutorial <a href="http://www.thecraftynovice.blogspot.com/2013/09/how-to-draft-12-circle-skirt-pattern.html" target="_blank">here</a>. Note I only made the skirt piece, not the waistband.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 2: Fold fabric in half with right sides of the fabric touching. Trace the pattern onto fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 3: Cut fabric </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For months I've been trying to find just the right piece of art to go over my living room couch. I wanted to do something a little more creative than just pictures in frames. Finally after doing extensive searching on <a href="http://etsy.com/">etsy.com</a>, I came across string art, and the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/RambleandRoost?ref=l2-shopheader-name" target="_blank">RambleandRoost</a> etsy shop. The owner has a ton of string art pieces, and one that struck me was a world map. I decided to try my hand at making my own version.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT8odzne7jDcNjbuvIkRpdwg64ixf8f0PwzxISdxaU18pycV2B9s8kdddJTegvAI49t1o2gzfXfujq0LqMczUAqClTpcdy9jvXybuJv9Wus5uB8vIXEhA0hw9yj5Wh63TgfjJS7brw4i8/s1600/bridal+cross+stitch+027+copy+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT8odzne7jDcNjbuvIkRpdwg64ixf8f0PwzxISdxaU18pycV2B9s8kdddJTegvAI49t1o2gzfXfujq0LqMczUAqClTpcdy9jvXybuJv9Wus5uB8vIXEhA0hw9yj5Wh63TgfjJS7brw4i8/s1600/bridal+cross+stitch+027+copy+copy.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Recently for a friend's bridal shower I purchased a custom cutting board (from Etsy) with her future last name on it. The cutting board was a hit and everyone thought the customization was a nice touch. When I started to take up cross stitch, I thought a great companion gift would be a custom frame with the bride and groom's initials as well as their wedding date. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In order to craft the pattern I needed to find patterns for letters and numbers-- Searching on pinterest I came across a bunch, see my pin board <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/thecraftynovice/when-i-learn-to-cross-stitch/" target="_blank">here</a>. I used excel and a pattern as a guide and came up with the below.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTdqpOsCUjXFWAenFIXNOP-HqR0YlOVp-h4BZkKCbVXFDm6Chyphenhyphenh9gbjqPkcQG4lywBjD0x1e3j-lM9mghuxgy1ealT2SP6NQRP7l_Afy8CJVU59ziNLKMvsrOaSS87Mobh1Xq2zz4_QQo/s1600/pattern.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTdqpOsCUjXFWAenFIXNOP-HqR0YlOVp-h4BZkKCbVXFDm6Chyphenhyphenh9gbjqPkcQG4lywBjD0x1e3j-lM9mghuxgy1ealT2SP6NQRP7l_Afy8CJVU59ziNLKMvsrOaSS87Mobh1Xq2zz4_QQo/s1600/pattern.png" height="440" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div align="center">
For reference I used 14 count aida fabric, and colors: dark fuschia (heart) and 844 (letters and numbers).</div>
<div align="center">

Need a quick inexpensive handmade gift? Why not this chevron framed cross stitch? It would make a perfect Christmas gift or housewarming present.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was able to make this pattern in just a few minutes in excel. The numbers on the pattern are the thread colors associated with the pattern.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjazmkn3j0EZ9bSFUa6F5LALBZT0QbKLPi9ncFEVJnhhyphenhyphenM4m9RHmLH_1MJ7-pUqXLDbrFwg7XjQwX1cjXfpSYYDh-jfphBVX78t-y5vEXxpoGOxHy9QQraDK_E4YnFJIHLNuzw-i82-2K0/s1600/homesweethomefinal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="433" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjazmkn3j0EZ9bSFUa6F5LALBZT0QbKLPi9ncFEVJnhhyphenhyphenM4m9RHmLH_1MJ7-pUqXLDbrFwg7XjQwX1cjXfpSYYDh-jfphBVX78t-y5vEXxpoGOxHy9QQraDK_E4YnFJIHLNuzw-i82-2K0/s640/homesweethomefinal.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After ages of wanting to learn how to cross stitch this weekend I finally found the time to hit up <a href="http://www.michaels.com/" target="_blank">Michaels</a> for supplies, and then head to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/" target="_blank">YouTube</a> for some trusty tips. I'd been seeing a ton of fun patterns on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/" target="_blank">etsy</a>, but considering I am brand new to cross stitch I thought it'd be best to start off small and simple. On <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> I saw a cute "home sweet home" cross stitch and I thought it looked easy enough to recreate, but the problem was there was no pattern associated with the pin. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I thought to myself that there must be an easy enough way to figure out the pattern on my own. The first thing I reached for was graph paper as the tiny squares on the paper are perfect for making a pattern. To start I google searched free heart patterns; and copied down a small heart that was fitting for what I wanted.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHVcBKHzUW_6KvVqPrYtU1SP6R-rR_YXQx_n7dhyphenhyphenMg8dndLEr-Q8ducjl5V9W1VwrIJdpMmrj9SzcZrzfEcssH2I7Nel9sbAwsQ5a7ByeDsdpAAxJ7ycRkTIU7XPB3YH7UwXQ1nkjMCQ0/s1600/heart+pattern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHVcBKHzUW_6KvVqPrYtU1SP6R-rR_YXQx_n7dhyphenhyphenMg8dndLEr-Q8ducjl5V9W1VwrIJdpMmrj9SzcZrzfEcssH2I7Nel9sbAwsQ5a7ByeDsdpAAxJ7ycRkTIU7XPB3YH7UwXQ1nkjMCQ0/s400/heart+pattern.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now that I had a portion of my pattern I decided it was time to prep my materials and try out cross stitch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Materials Checklist:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
14 Count Aida Fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tapestry Needle</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Wooden Hoop</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Embroidery thread</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's what I did:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. I placed the hoop over/under the Aida fabric and tightened the tension</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. threaded the tapestry needle with 3 strands of embroidery thread (note: the thread comes in 6 strands)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. Found the center of my fabric and pattern</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
4. Began sewing following the pattern (note: when threading the needle in for the first stitch make sure you leave a tail, do NOT make any knots)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, for the second portion of the pattern I needed to create letters. For this I was actually able to copy down the pattern by just looking at the picture I had for inspiration; to save you the work, the pattern is below:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHW-qC7wfnBlIVQcbdSPPXMQdYDISGqXITHWz5PCggZqksgMqZnfwHtq7K4ZnocTyRgZIo6_d8sBP56DisoVPp8MQW62oNYepRAj-AtFEdr5dhEjAWciG6nFqM0oPMnS6AtgkENWOXIL0/s1600/homesweethomepattern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="379" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHW-qC7wfnBlIVQcbdSPPXMQdYDISGqXITHWz5PCggZqksgMqZnfwHtq7K4ZnocTyRgZIo6_d8sBP56DisoVPp8MQW62oNYepRAj-AtFEdr5dhEjAWciG6nFqM0oPMnS6AtgkENWOXIL0/s640/homesweethomepattern.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then, the only thing I had left to do was frame it! I cut the fabric to the size of the frame and that was it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Over the weekend I teamed up with a few friends, one among them Ashley from <a href="http://www.xosmash.com/" target="_blank">Smashing Style</a>, to bedazzle sweatshirts. The entire process was beyond easy and inexpensive. </div>
<div align="center">

<div align="center">
I made mine out of a Hanes <a href="http://www.walmart.com/ip/FAST-TRACK-Hanes-Womens-Fleece-Crew-Sweatshirt/27436608" target="_blank">sweatshirt</a> from Walmart and some gems from M and J Trimming.<br />
I placed the gems out on the sweatshirt, then used fabric glue to glue each gem down. From here I used a needle and thread to reinforce each gem. That simple!</div>

I've been getting a few questions regarding this cozy <a href="http://thecraftynovice.blogspot.com/2012/02/diy-crochet-open-shrug-pt-2.html" target="_blank">Open Shrug</a> I posted last year; I thought this week would be the perfect time to answer.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Reader Melinda writes <i>"I absolutely love this but I feel very silly because I can't figure out <b>how you
actually put it on</b>. Can you explain or show a picture? Feeling a bit daft"</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thanks for writing in and following Melinda, I hope the below GIF clears up any confusion you have! Also, don't feel bad, I made one for a friend and she was completely puzzled and didn't even know how to begin to put it on.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYw0SbzzVQ_na20ke5DpeCbigFnhl3_IUtQk4O3ARRpnFsw7EVSBxtSI1WW51MfuZF27oSJFHU7Glf_GEKRygEclwjBl47Z9juUPETVb5Moba0jz9nhibRxQdB_ypWkMg1VCbY5RXs0UI/s1600/3494459.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYw0SbzzVQ_na20ke5DpeCbigFnhl3_IUtQk4O3ARRpnFsw7EVSBxtSI1WW51MfuZF27oSJFHU7Glf_GEKRygEclwjBl47Z9juUPETVb5Moba0jz9nhibRxQdB_ypWkMg1VCbY5RXs0UI/s640/3494459.gif" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Also, regarding your second inquiry
</div>
<div class="comment-content" id="bc_0_2MC" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><i>"Also, any suggestions on how to measure if I wanted to make this for a child or
plus size adult? How did you decide on 29 in" </i></span></div>
<div class="comment-content" id="bc_0_2MC" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><i> </i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Width can we calculated by measuring elbow to elbow with your arms straight out in a t position. Length can be calculated by measuring shoulder to waist and multiplying by 2.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hope these tips help!</div>
